With the addition of 24k gold leaf between the two wood pieces, “StripeII” is an extension of “Stripe I”. This artistic choice is an ode to the ancient Japanese practice of kintsugi. Kintsugi is a refurbishing method where golden adhesives are used to mend broken art objects. By invoking kintsugi, this work joins a long tradition of art that serves as a reminder to embrace and accept life’s imperfections.
