TWINS

Recycled EPS, Resin, Fiberglass, Pigment, Golf Leaf, High-Gloss
Words from the artist:
Initially, this was what I had in mind for this year’s Laguna Art Museum’s Auction submission. However, there were some serious technical difficulties, which forced a pivot in timing. I am very satisfied with my original work and the idea, but I still had that itch to execute my initial vision and play with this medium/concept further. I like the idea of replicating an image side by side. It forces an immediate comparison, an inspection of the subtle differences, and nothing is ever exactly the same. It’s interesting to look at, and the gold gives more contrast for a deeper image. It was a creative choice. I’ve yet to see the two works next to each other which I am hoping to at some point. Also, I am a little obsessed with the idea of twins. There’s a whole ball of wax which I’m not going to unpack here and now, but at least to me, twins are fascinating on a variety of levels. It’s a built-in-buddy, a “womb-mate”, a literal carbon-copy in human form. Damn near all of the twins I know are very special people in their own right and certainly have unique identities, and live what I consider special lives. I am not in a rush to start a family of my own, but I have always liked the “idea” of twins - and it’s certainly not up to me if and when that time comes. Anyhow, I like the way this “test” piece looks and I’m really excited to explore a few directions which include imagery.
