Words from the artist:

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Sister City exchange program, I had the privilege of creating twin artworks for the cities of Newport Beach and Okazaki, Japan.

It is a great honor to represent my hometown abroad as an artist. I thank the Mayor of Okazaki, delegates from the City of Newport Beach, and specifically @trulybee and her sister @timree for the opportunity to be a part of this special program.

The organization is near and dear to my heart. My older sister, Karlin, participated in this very program in 1998. Unfortunately, four years later when my time came, I was an alternate - it took nearly 20 years, but I finally got to Okazaki!

The spirit of unification and cohesion between our cities is visualized through the blending of our nation’s flags.

These artworks are appropriately made from materials common in industries of my hometown.

From growing up hearing how special it was, the Japanese culture has always fascinated me. There is an oneness that comes over me when I visit, and being here always feels like coming home. I can only hope that when people view these works in the years to come, that they feel that same sense of harmony.
